Work We Turn Down
We don't touch commercial rolling steel doors or fire-rated warehouse doors - that's a different trade with different hardware, and we'd rather point you elsewhere than fake our way through it. We also don't do cosmetic paint or refinishing work on wood doors; if a panel is faded but the door still runs true, that's not a call for us.
If your door is original to a house built in the 1960s or 70s - a lot of the stock in this area is - and the track, spring, and drum are all original steel with no modern safety cable, we'll tell you plainly when patch repair isn't worth it. Sourcing exact replacement parts for hardware that old can mean a real wait, and sometimes a full replacement costs less than chasing parts for a door that's going to need something else next year anyway. We'd rather say that up front than string out a repair.
We also don't do same-day emergency dispatch promises over the phone before we've seen the door. A spring that's off track and a cable that's frayed on a double door are two different jobs, and quoting blind helps nobody.
The Work We Take On
Broken torsion and extension springs, opener motor and circuit board failures, bent or off-track sections, worn rollers and cables, and misaligned sensors - that's the bulk of what comes through the shop. Given that most houses in this service area were built between 1956 and 1997, with a lot of that stock concentrated in the 1960s and 70s, we see plenty of doors on original torsion hardware that nobody stocks new anymore, alongside newer openers that just need a logic board or sensor swap.
The mild temperate climate here means we're not dealing with the ice-jammed tracks or extreme thermal expansion issues that garages in harsher climates get, so most of what fails is wear, age, or a spring that's simply done its cycle count. We work across Thousand Oaks and into the nearby areas - Newbury Park just southwest of us, and out toward Santa Rosa Valley, Lake Sherwood, Westlake Village, and Oak Park.
